First time I went in The Big "T" in Vegas I asked if they had an LV and the lady said yes. I said I would like to buy it and she said are you a collector? and I said Yes. She said one moment.
I walked in and out in half an hour with it.

I got one of the first SS GMT-IIcs from the T in San Francisco. I told them I was interested around Basel time and the salesman took my information. I got a call in September when they got their first one in and my wife picked it up for me. All very easy and I still enjoy going in there to this day.
With any large chain there are going to be issues, especially in the variability of salespeople across all the various locations. Here in SF, the sales people I speak with are quite knowledgeable about the watches they carry and some they don’t. One is even a Universal Geneve vintage buff.
The big T will never be as personal as the beloved local mom & pop AD and they can’t dicker on prices as much either. Nonetheless, I feel they offer a "reasonable" experience with a very good selection.
Plus, you can exchange 100,000 AMEX points for $1000 T gift certs. I’m salivating at cashing all mine in and getting a serious leg up on my next purchase.

Following on Steve’s excellent post on his trip to Park City - it turns out that while Steve was at a former Winter Olympics site in the US, I was at one in Europe at the same time!

My team from work took its annual ski weekend at Sestriere, a resort in the Italian Alps about a two-hour drive from Turin.

Sestriere was one of the sites and Olympic Villages of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

I’m not really much of a skiier, but had a blast. After the first day I managed to graduate from the bunny slopes and try a few real runs. Despite regularly falling (into the slopes, so it was always pretty gentle), I managed to survive and even get up a bit of speed.

Some of my colleagues and the instructor the girls were fawning all over:

Apré‘£-ski was also fun of course!!

And, of course, I managed to squeeze in some wristshots, but only one turned out good enough to post here:

Now…. for the best part of the trip I didn’t have my camera with me!!
On Sunday, the slopes were draped in an inpentrable fog, so we didn’t do much skiing. Instead, we meandered around town, where I came across a stunning window display that included:
- 1950s GMT-Master with bakelite bezel and American jubiliee bracelet (with the oval links)
- Other vintage GMTs, including with faded bezel
- numerous vintage subs
- brand new SS Daytona (white dial)
- brand new Milgauss (green crystal)
- a few other very vintage pieces, all in pristine condition
Of course, I immediately entered the store and had a great chat with the owner, who was wearing another vintage GMT with faded bezel. He knew his stuff very well I thought. I almost felt embarrased with my Y-M…
Unfortunately I was not in the position to purchase any of those pieces, but I tried several of them on. I had never before tried on ANY vintage pieces, and it was another world for me!
I could just kick myself that I left me camera at the hotel (I thought fog = no decent shots…
)
In any event, the owner was extremely nice and said that should I ever return to Sestriere and want a particular piece, he would be more than happy to work with me to try and get it in advance. Now THAT is service! If anyone here is interested his contact details, just let me know and I will be happy to forward them.
Again, sorry that I don’t have pics but I am glad I can share that experience with my friends here that will understand how great it was.
Cheers
